About the position

The Medical Assistant in Neurology at Memorial Healthcare System is responsible for performing routine clinical and administrative duties to support the neurology department. This role involves direct patient care, including diagnostic procedures, specimen collection, and assisting healthcare providers in patient assessments and treatments. The Medical Assistant also manages administrative tasks such as scheduling, data entry, and patient registration, ensuring a high standard of patient care and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection, including phlebotomy and procedural tray/room set-up.
  • Activates My Chart Accounts where appropriate and ensures Telehealth connectivity for scheduled appointments.
  • Performs administrative duties such as scanning, reception, scheduling, data entry, and patient registration.
  • Reviews and documents social determinants and provides education/resources as needed.
  • Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition and documents patient care provided.
  • Provides discharge instructions and follows up with patients as needed.
  • Recognizes and seeks help in emergent situations.
  • Reviews patient charts to ensure imaging is available and all pertinent information is maximized for appointments.
  • Follows up on reported issues and assists with service recovery.
  • Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, and cleaning/disinfection per protocol.
  • Manages and facilitates all in-basket messages and patient phone calls.
  • Rounds with patients to ensure an excellent patient experience is met.
  • Under supervision, assists with performing patient assessments and treatments, obtaining and documenting vital signs and patient history.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant or EMT program, or six months of patient care experience.
  • BLS Certification from an accredited provider (American Heart Association or Red Cross).
  • Critical thinking skills and effective communication skills.
