About the position

The Medical Assistant position at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission involves providing essential support in the delivery of medical care to patients in the Neurosurgery Clinic. This role is pivotal in ensuring that patients receive high-quality care and that their interactions with the clinic are positive and supportive. The Medical Assistant will work closely with the clinic physician and other healthcare professionals to assist in various medical tasks, maintain patient records, and ensure that the clinic operates smoothly. The position requires a strong focus on customer service, as the Medical Assistant will be the first point of contact for patients and will need to maintain a welcoming and professional demeanor at all times. In this role, the Medical Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to, documenting patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, assisting with patient intake, and ensuring that all medical documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner. The Medical Assistant will also be expected to administer immunizations, manage patient medications according to established protocols, and communicate effectively with patients regarding their care plans. This position requires a multitask-oriented individual who can handle the demands of a busy clinic environment while providing compassionate care to patients. The Medical Assistant will work full-time, Monday through Friday, with shifts that may vary depending on the surgery schedule. The role may also require occasional travel to other locations, including South OP, Lenexa, and Spring Hill. Responsibilities

  • Assist the provider in the delivery of medical care to clinic patients.
  • Maintain high customer service skills with all patient interactions.
  • Document patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system according to established protocols.
  • Complete medical documentation upon patient intake accurately and thoroughly.
  • Administer immunizations as required.
  • Manage patient medications according to established protocols.
  • Communicate electronically with patients as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required upon hire.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Customer Service / Patient Focus experience is essential.
  • BLS obtained through the American Heart Association.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
