About the position

The Medical Assistant (MA) at Summit Health plays a crucial role in supporting physicians, PAs, or NPs by managing clerical duties, facilitating patient flow, and providing patient care. This position is integral to ensuring a smooth and efficient patient experience in a healthcare setting, focusing on both administrative and clinical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the examination room and ensures it is clean after each exam.
• Escorts patients into the examination room and maintains efficient patient flow.
• Communicates and provides care consistent with the patient's age, culture, and developmental needs.
• Answers telephone calls appropriately and schedules appointments according to departmental guidelines.
• Stocks examination rooms with necessary supplies and assists in ordering and maintaining supplies.
• Obtains and documents vital signs accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Reviews and updates medication lists and documents known allergies in the EHR.
• Enters orders and schedules appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR.
• Adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposing of medical waste.
• Facilitates transition of care to urgent care or hospital as needed.

Requirements

• High School Graduate/GED or equivalent work/vocational/technical school diploma required.
• Associate Degree preferred.
• Graduated from an accredited medical assistant or phlebotomy program.
• 0-1 year related work experience required; 2-4 years preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required.
• Basic proficiency in computer use required.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
