About the position
The Medical Assistant in Occupational Health at St. Vincent Medical Center is responsible for assisting with patient processing in an ambulatory setting, performing both clinical and clerical duties. This role involves direct patient care, diagnostic procedures, and supporting physicians in various tasks, ensuring high-quality healthcare delivery to patients of all ages.
Responsibilities
- Directs patients to care areas and obtains chief complaints and vital signs.
- Maintains patient flow in clinical areas.
- Performs diagnostic testing such as EKGs and minor lab tests as ordered.
- May perform venipuncture and assist physicians with procedures and exams.
- Maintains patient records and documentation, including chart reviews and patient notes.
- Assists in ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and quality control procedures.
- Administers medications and documents accordingly.
- Maintains inventory and stocks exam rooms, ensuring equipment is in good working order.
- Provides service to all age groups and demonstrates knowledge of age-specific care needs.
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program, or a Licensed Practical Nurse, or a minimum of 5 years practical experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Current certification or licensure required, with the need to obtain certification within six months if not currently certified.
- Two years of previous experience in a physician's office or ambulatory care setting preferred.
- Current CPR certification is mandatory.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients and staff.
- Ability to adjust to varying work levels and complete multiple tasks based on daily needs.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a physician's office or ambulatory care setting.
- Additional certifications related to medical assisting.
