About the position

Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse for their Same Day Access Clinic in downtown Minneapolis. This role focuses on providing quality patient care under the direction of physicians and other clinical team members. The position is primarily day shift, with potential for evening and weekend hours as the clinic grows. The role is union represented and offers opportunities for tuition reimbursement and career advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned clinical tasks under the direction of a physician or other providers, including administering medications, injections, and immunizations.
  • Set up for and provide direct assistance to physicians and other licensed care providers with medical examinations and procedures.
  • Perform specimen collection including blood draws, sputum samples, and urine samples.
  • Perform hearing and vision screens and developmental testing.
  • Review patient information as required by the rooming process and competently enter information into the patient medical record.
  • Perform basic patient care activities including placing patients in rooms and taking vital signs.
  • Administer and dispense medications and immunizations under the direction of a provider or registered nurse.
  • Contribute to the initial and ongoing assessment of patients and obtain patient information and medical history.
  • Provide patient education from standardized teaching plans under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Transcribe orders, maintain telephone communication, and call prescription refills as directed by providers.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Associate's Degree from an accredited Medical Assistant school or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.
  • Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Minnesota Board of Nursing (for LPN candidates).
  • Current CPR certification (for LPN candidates).
  • Credentialed or Registered through AAMA, AMT, or NHCA within thirteen months of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with EPIC and/or similar electronic health record systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software.
  • Bilingual in English and at least one other language commonly spoken by HHS patients.
