About the position

The Medical Assistant position at Surfside Lee Health is a full-time role focused on providing exceptional customer service in a team-oriented environment. The Medical Assistant will work under the direct supervision of a physician or physician assistant, assisting in various aspects of medical practice. This includes ensuring patient safety, performing phlebotomy, conducting point of care testing, assisting in minor procedures, and processing lab specimens. The role also involves the safe operation of medical equipment, providing patient instructions, and handling and administering medications in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational policies. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Medical Assistant is tasked with the collection, communication, and documentation of accurate patient information and maintaining medical records as per regulatory standards. The position requires coordination of requests for information and prescriptions, as well as maintaining and preparing patient care areas to ensure efficient and safe delivery of patient care. The Medical Assistant may also be required to work late hours, on holidays, and weekends as needed, and will perform other duties as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service in a team-based environment.
  • Assist in all aspects of medical practice under the supervision of a physician or physician assistant.

  • Safely operate medical equipment and provide patient instructions.

  • Maintain and prepare patient care areas for efficient and safe patient care delivery.
  • Work late hours, holidays, and weekends as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of a medical assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES preferred.
  • BLS certification required; must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • CCMA or RMA certification preferred.
  • Medical terminology and communication skills required.
  • Basic knowledge of computers required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Medical Assistant experience preferred but not required.
  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a physician's office or hospital outpatient department may be accepted in lieu of degree/diploma from accredited medical assisting program.
