About the position

The Medical Assistant in Orthopedics at GBMC Healthcare provides direct patient care under the supervision of a physician. Responsibilities

• Assists physician in providing direct patient care and evaluation of patients in an office setting.
• Performs direct patient care tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG, specimen collection, wound care, medication administration, and taking vital signs.
• Maintains supplies and schedules patient appointments.
• Evaluates patients for appropriate preventive care and responds to patient questions.
• Cleans examination rooms and maintains cleanliness and order.
• Stocks and orders medical supplies and sterilizes medical equipment.
• Performs medical office clerical duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of experience as a medical assistant or successful completion of a medical assistant training program.
• National Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and skills in phlebotomy, EKG, specimen collection, and medication administration.
• Ability to distinguish normal from abnormal diagnostic results and pass a medication calculation test with an 85% or better prior to hire.

• National Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant may substitute for years of experience required.
