About the position

The Medical Assistant at the Pain Clinic plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the medical office. This position involves a variety of tasks including patient interaction, administrative duties, and assisting healthcare professionals in clinical procedures. The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring a smooth workflow in the clinic, contributing to patient care, and maintaining accurate medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Rooms patients, collects assessment data and prepares patients according to specific needs.
  • Assists in examination, treatment, and other clinic procedures.
  • Assists with laboratory procedures, screening tests, and quality improvement projects.
  • Answers telephone inquiries, directs callers, or initiates triage slips for medical personnel.
  • Schedules appointments and enters appointment details into the computerized scheduler.
  • Conducts reminder calls to all patients.
  • Greets and directs patients, salespeople, and visitors.
  • Registers patients by verifying and updating their records.
  • Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices.
  • Collects payments from patients and issues receipts.
  • Prepares and maintains patient charts.
  • Maintains and orders medical supplies.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a medical assistant program accredited by ABHES or CAAHEP, or a postsecondary school with institutional accreditation.
  • Experience in a clinic setting preferred.
  • Current CMA certification through AAMA, RMA certification through AMT, or equivalent certification required.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Medication injection training and pharmacology competency required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
