About the position

The Medical Assistant in Palliative Care is responsible for ensuring the efficient flow of patients through the healthcare setting, providing exceptional customer service, and assisting in patient care. This role involves preparing patients for visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests, maintaining patient records, and collaborating with healthcare team members to implement patient care plans.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately schedules tests and prepares laboratory specimens according to policy.
  • Assists physicians and/or nurses with special procedures and examinations as defined on competency checklist.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care.
  • Records elements of patient history for clinical staff review.
  • Electronically submits prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
  • Maintains medical records and ensures all required documentation is available.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms and stocks supplies.
  • Performs clerical duties such as greeting patients, registration, and scheduling.
  • Performs simple procedures as directed by the nurse or physician.
  • Documents vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures in medical records.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or at least one year as a Medical Assistant
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) certification within 14 days of hire

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification
  • NCRMA certification
  • Basic typing and word processing skills
