About the position

The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a crucial role in providing healthcare services under the supervision of physicians or nurses. This position involves performing routine clinical tasks, participating in patient education, and maintaining accurate patient documentation. The MA is responsible for ensuring patient confidentiality and assisting in various medical procedures while adhering to clinic policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality and uses discretion when discussing patient information.
  • Implements patient care under the guidance of physicians and office managers.
  • Screens phone calls during triage under physician supervision, referring medical decisions to physicians.
  • Performs intramuscular, intradermal, or subcutaneous injections with complete documentation.
  • Assists physicians and/or MAs in providing nursing care to patients according to clinic policies.
  • Takes patient history and vital signs.
  • Checks for expired medication monthly, maintaining documentation and disposal.
  • Unpacks and maintains medical supplies and vaccines, keeping the supply closet organized.
  • Assists in prescription refills via fax, E-Rx, or phone calls, updating the patient medication module.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and practice of infection control procedures.
  • Cleans and disinfects all instruments and maintains QA reports for the autoclave.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants.
  • 2+ years of professional medical assisting experience in a practice setting is preferred.
  • National/Registered Medical Assistant Certification or certification obtained within 90 days of hire date.
  • Valid CPR certification.
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Extensive standing and walking; frequent exposure to potentially infectious agents and other conditions common to a physician's office; requires working under stressful conditions.
