About the position

Lone Star Circle of Care is a non-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) dedicated to providing high-quality health care to patients in Central Texas. Our Medical Assistants play a crucial role in this mission by participating as part of the integrated health care delivery team under the direction of licensed medical and/or licensed nursing personnel. This position involves a variety of responsibilities that are essential to the smooth operation of our clinics and the care of our patients. As a Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for obtaining, evaluating, and recording patient history in medical files, as well as measuring and recording vital signs. You will prepare and maintain examination and treatment rooms, ensuring that they are clean and that instruments are sterilized. Additionally, you will assist in the examination of patients and may be required to draw and collect blood samples for laboratory analysis. Your role will also include preparing and administering medications as ordered by licensed medical and/or nursing staff, performing routine diagnostic and laboratory tests, and explaining treatment procedures to patients. Compliance with quality metrics defined by the Quality Council is a key aspect of this role. You will need to follow standing orders and provide treatments according to established protocols, achieving and maintaining clinical competencies as defined by the Quality Council. Responsibilities

  • Obtain, evaluate, and record patient history in medical file
  • Obtain and measure vital signs and record information on patients' charts
  • Prepare and maintain examination/treatment rooms, including cleaning and sterilizing instruments, and inventory of medical supplies and materials
  • Assist in the examination of patients under the direction of licensed medical and/or licensed nursing staff
  • Draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Prepare and administer medications as ordered by licensed medical and/or licensed nursing staff
  • Perform routine diagnostic and laboratory tests
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients under the direction of licensed medical and/or licensed nursing staff
  • Ensure defined quality metrics are met as defined by the Quality Council
  • Follow standing orders and provide treatments according to established protocols
  • Achieve and maintain clinical competencies as defined by the Quality Council

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)

Nice-to-haves

  • Medical Assistant certificate from one of the following organizations: CMA - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), RMA - American Medical Technologists (AMT), CCMA - National Health Career Association (NHA), NRCMA - National Association of Health Professionals (NAHP), NCMA - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Previous experience in an outpatient clinic
  • Previous work using electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills
