Medical Assistant - Pediatrics

About the position

The Medical Assistant position at Christie Clinic's Pediatrics department involves providing essential patient care and support in a clinical setting. The role requires a systematic approach to patient assessment and care, ensuring that all necessary preparations and follow-ups are conducted efficiently. The position is full-time, with a schedule of Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and does not require night or weekend work.

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments prior to appointment.
• Clean and restock rooms following appointment as needed and at the end of the day.
• Assist patient to exam room, take vitals, weight and height of patient, and enter information into the electronic medical record.
• Perform chart preparation according to department standards.
• Maintain and update patient medical record upon visit including allergies, medications, etc.
• Appropriate use of flag system per standard work.
• Review and respond to the electronic medical record work list per department standard work.
• Complete referral, lab, and procedure order entries and appropriately handle patient specimens, as needed.
• Assist providers with procedures/surgery, as needed.
• Maintain relevant office supplies for department effectiveness.
• Assist in patient education relating to medication instructions, procedures, wound care or any other necessary information pertaining to patient care.
• Assist in answering phones, checking patients in/out and scheduling appointments, as needed.
• Obtain prior authorizations for procedures, medications, testing as needed.
• Perform refrigeration/supplies monitoring and replenishment as needed.
• Travel as required by departmental need to other Christie Clinic locations.
• Perform related work as required.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited CMA/CNA program.
• Previous healthcare experience is preferred.
• CPR certification is required.

• CNA certification is preferred.
• CMA certification is preferred.
