About the position

The Medical Assistant (MA) position at Starling Physicians involves supporting physicians, physician assistants, or nurse practitioners in various clerical and patient care duties. The role is essential in maintaining efficient patient flow, preparing examination rooms, and ensuring that patients receive high-quality care tailored to their individual needs. The MA will also be responsible for documenting patient information accurately in electronic health records and assisting with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the examination room for patient visits.
  • Escort patients into the examination room.
  • Clean the examination room after each exam.
  • Maintain efficient patient flow during visits.
  • Prepare pertinent information needed for patient visits.
  • Communicate and provide care consistent with the patient's needs.
  • Answer telephone calls and direct them appropriately.
  • Schedule appointments according to departmental guidelines.
  • Stock examination rooms with necessary supplies.
  • Order and maintain medical supplies as assigned.
  • Reconcile patient encounters daily according to policy guidelines.
  • Communicate problems or concerns to the Supervisor or Manager promptly.
  • Obtain and document vital signs accurately in the EHR.
  • Review and update medication lists and allergies in the EHR.
  • Document prescription control and refill procedures accurately.
  • Enter orders and schedule appointments in the Practice Management System and EHR.
  • Provide referrals and consult orders in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to universal safety precautions when administering medications.
  • Maintain proficiency with department-specific equipment and report malfunctions.
  • Facilitate transitions of care to urgent care or hospital settings.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with various work schedules.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate/GED or equivalent work/vocational/technical school diploma required.
  • Associate Degree preferred.
  • 0-1 year related work experience required.
  • 2-4 years related work experience preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required.
  • Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner required.
  • Basic proficiency in computer use required.
  • Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a pediatric setting preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
