About the position

The Medical Assistant, under the direction of the Office Manager and/or Clinical Supervisor, provides appropriate care to patients within the scope of the Medical Practice Act. Assists in patient education. Assists physician during treatment and examination of patient and administers procedures and treatments as ordered by the physician. Responsibilities include rooming patients for appointments, obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for physical examinations, explaining procedures and treatments, reviewing patient charts, assisting with the preparation of equipment, administering prescribed medications, managing appointment bookings, responding to telephone calls, and maintaining exam rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with rooming patients for appointments and obtains accurate vital signs.
  • Prepares patients for physical examinations and screens them for appropriate information.
  • Instructs patients in the collection of samples and tests.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patients and significant others prior to implementation.
  • Reviews patient charts to ensure all test results and correspondence are present before the physician sees the patient.
  • Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids the physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with AdventHealth Division policy and procedures.
  • Documents medications completely in the patient's chart after administration.
  • Reviews appointment bookings and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations.
  • Maintains timely flow of patients and responds to incoming telephone calls.
  • Instructs patients and families regarding medication and treatment instructions.
  • Responsible for preparation of exam rooms, including restocking treatment areas and disinfecting exam tables and counters.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant program or 3 years' experience
  • BLS (condition of employment)
  • CMA /RMA
  • Registered or Certified from a recognized Medical Assistant Program
