About the position

The Medical Assistant for Population Health at UC San Diego Health plays a crucial role in supporting a team of healthcare professionals, including Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, and Social Workers, in providing care to high-risk patients. This hybrid position involves both remote and onsite work, focusing on scheduling, care coordination, and patient engagement through telephonic outreach. The role requires a strong background in patient care, medical terminology, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support NPs, MDs, RNs, and Social Workers in scheduling and care coordination.
  • Engage patients through high-volume telephonic outreach to enroll them in Population Health programs.
  • Assist in scheduling patient appointments and managing associated patient system screens.
  • Perform accurate billing and manage environmental care functions.
  • Maintain equipment and supply management, including cleaning and disinfecting the environment.
  • Gather patient intake information and escalate issues to RNs as necessary.
  • Coordinate follow-up appointments for patients in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
  • BART or BLS certification at time of hire, with a commitment to obtain BART within six months.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, and universal precautions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Epic and Careport/Allscripts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
  • Two or more years of experience in internal medicine or multispecialty care.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification.
