About the position

The Medical Assistant in Primary Care at Kaiser Permanente plays a crucial role in delivering quality healthcare services to patients. This part-time position involves both clinical and administrative support, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive care in alignment with the organization's mission and values. The Medical Assistant is responsible for preparing patients for visits, collecting vital information, assisting with clinical procedures, and maintaining efficient workflow within the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize patients' office visits by ensuring all necessary tests and clinical information are ready for clinician review.
  • Collect pertinent subjective and objective data related to patients' reasons for visit.
  • Utilize standardized tools to identify and address health maintenance gaps with patients.
  • Recognize and report signs and symptoms of common medical illnesses to the clinician.
  • Prepare patients for visits or procedures and ensure exam rooms are stocked and clean.
  • Provide patients with after-visit instructions and educational materials as directed by the clinician.
  • Document all pertinent data and outcomes of patient care in KP HealthConnect and other information systems.
  • Perform diagnostic tests, therapies, and procedures within the scope of authorized duties.
  • Maintain and adjust clinicians' patient schedules for efficient patient flow.
  • Respond to incoming messages and requests from patients and other departments.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Valid Certified Medical Assistant certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 1 month of hire.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using computers and keyboarding.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in a medical assistant position in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Current National Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Familiarity with documenting in an electronic medical record system.
