About The Position

The Medical Assistant in Primary Care plays a crucial role in delivering quality healthcare services to patients at Kaiser Permanente. The Medical Assistant is responsible for a variety of tasks, including direct patient care, preparation for clinical visits, and maintaining efficient workflow within the healthcare team. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program approved by the State.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington).
  • Basic Life Support certification within 1 month of hire.
  • Ability to obtain Kaiser Permanente's Medication Administration Competency Certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using computers and keyboarding.
  • Problem-solving skills and good judgment for decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in a medical assistant position in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Current National Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge and procedural skills in assigned clinical area within the last 1-3 years.
  • Familiarity with documenting in an electronic medical record system.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize patients' office visits by ensuring all necessary tests and clinical information are ready for clinician review.
  • Collect pertinent subjective and objective data related to patients' reasons for visit.
  • Utilize standardized tools to identify and address health maintenance gaps and alert clinicians as necessary.
  • Recognize and report signs and symptoms of common medical illnesses to clinicians.
  • Prepare patients for visits or procedures during the rooming-in process.
  • Ensure exam/procedure rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and equipment.
  • Provide patients with after-visit instructions and educational materials as directed by clinicians.
  • Document all pertinent data and outcomes of patient care in KP HealthConnect and other information systems.
  • Perform diagnostic tests, therapies, and procedures within the scope of authorized duties.
  • Maintain and adjust clinicians' patient schedules for efficient patient flow.
  • Respond to incoming messages and requests from patients and other departments.
  • Facilitate follow-up duties on patients' plans of care as directed by clinicians.
  • Assist with onboarding new hires and validating peers' clinical skills.
  • Complete annual competency assessments and trainings.
