About the position
The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a crucial role in the patient care team at Middlesex Health, primarily responsible for performing clinical duties under the direction of the Practice Manager. This part-time position involves assisting healthcare providers to ensure timely and effective patient care while maintaining strict patient confidentiality. The MA will also handle various clerical and administrative tasks as needed.
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients to the practice and escort them to the exam room.
- Interview patients to verify the reason for their visit and obtain medical information.
- Measure and record patients' vital signs, height, and weight.
- Document all patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) according to policies and procedures.
- Confirm and record allergies, current medications, and pharmacy of choice.
- Assist the provider with patient exams and procedures as directed.
- Perform phlebotomy and collect blood and other specimens for lab delivery.
- Document laboratory procedures and results in the EHR.
- Perform routine diagnostic tests such as EKG and spirometry, providing reports to the provider.
- Prepare and maintain treatment rooms, ensuring cleanliness and proper stocking.
- Manage patient messages and prepare prescription refill documents for provider review.
- Schedule patient appointments and prepare referrals for specialists and hospital services.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Medical Assisting Certification
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medications
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
Nice-to-haves
- 1 year experience working with electronic health records
- 1 year office-based physician practice experience
