About the position

The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a crucial role in the patient care team at Middlesex Health, ensuring that patients receive timely and effective care under the direction of the Practice Manager. The MA is responsible for performing clinical duties, assisting providers, and maintaining patient confidentiality while also handling some clerical and administrative tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients to the practice and escort them to the exam room.
  • Interview patients to verify the reason for their visit and obtain medical information.
  • Measure patients' vital signs, height, and weight, and obtain temperature and pulse oximetry for acute visits.
  • Document all patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) according to policies and procedures.
  • Confirm and record allergies, current medications, and pharmacy of choice.
  • Ensure all documentation and reports pertinent to the visit are available for the provider.
  • Assist the provider with patient exams and procedures as directed.
  • Perform phlebotomy and collect blood and other specimens, documenting these procedures in the EHR.
  • Perform routine in-office laboratory tests and document results in the EHR.
  • Conduct routine or diagnostic testing such as EKG and spirometry, providing reports to the provider.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, keeping them clean and stocked.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies appropriately.
  • Manage patient messages as delegated by licensed clinical staff/provider.
  • Prepare prescription refill documents for provider review and signature.
  • Maintain organized systems to ensure timely workflow for patients and providers.
  • Schedule patient appointments and prepare referrals/authorizations for specialist services.
  • Assist with review and preparation of Home Healthcare Certifications and other documents as requested.
  • Adhere to all Core Values and Absolutes of the organization.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medications
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 year experience working with electronic health records
  • 1 year office based physician practice experience
  • Medical Assisting Certification
