About the position

The Medical Assistant / Receptionist position at Abilene Spine and Joint Surgery Center is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients and visitors while performing various administrative tasks. The role focuses on patient check-in, insurance verification, payment processing, and data entry, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience for patients in a medical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors in a friendly and welcoming manner.
  • Check in patients, verifying insurance information and informing them of any outstanding balances.
  • Obtain payments for office visits and document all financial transactions accurately.
  • Set up and monitor patient payment arrangements.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as copying, filing, faxing, and data entry.
  • Receive and distribute incoming mail and packages.
  • Room patients in a timely manner to maximize provider time and reduce delays.
  • Escort patients to the laboratory and direct them to the collection technician when a urine analysis is required.
  • Obtain patient weight and height in the triage room.
  • Verify patient information in the electronic medical record system.
  • Triage patients by obtaining medication lists, verifying PCPs, and reconciling medications.
  • Review patient history and enter required information in progress notes.
  • Set up patient rooms and assist physicians during consultations.
  • Scribe and assist in procedures and injections under the direction of a physician.
  • Conduct pill counts and destroy medications as instructed.
  • Create and build patient procedure/exam notes.
  • Provide patients with explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.
  • Practice HIPAA requirements to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist with stocking and cleaning throughout the clinic.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification/CNA/EMT or equivalent experience.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and standard PC software applications.
  • Basic anatomy knowledge.
  • High school diploma or GED; additional qualifications are a plus.
  • Prior administrative or clerical experience in a clinical or community-based setting.
  • Intermediate to advanced phone and computer skills.
  • Insurance knowledge.
