About the position

The Medical Assistant position involves performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks under the direct supervision of a healthcare provider. The role focuses on delivering excellent patient care by managing patient flow, recording vital signs, assisting with examinations, and handling administrative duties such as scheduling appointments and processing referrals. The Medical Assistant is essential in ensuring a smooth operation within the clinic while maintaining a patient-centered approach.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and escort patients to the exam room.
  • Measure and record vital signs, height, and weight.
  • Collect and record medical and medication histories.
  • Prepare patients for examination/procedure and ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Assist the provider and nursing staff as directed.
  • Implement medical orders safely and properly.
  • Collect specimens and label them accurately, administer immunizations and medications as directed.
  • Maintain rooms, equipment, and supplies to uphold standard precautions.
  • Answer telephones and handle customer inquiries promptly.
  • Schedule appointments and process referrals and prior authorizations.
  • Register patients ensuring accuracy and collection of required documents.

Requirements

  • Active American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Registered or Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Commiserate combination of education and experience as deemed appropriate by Human Resources and ABR-OE Credential upon hire.
  • Successful completion of registration or certification in an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Experience in a medical office or similar setting required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical assistant competencies, computers, and EHRs.
  • Patient access knowledge preferred.
  • PCMH experience is a plus.
