About the position

The Medical Assistant position at Mercy Hospital Washington is a full-time role focused on providing essential support to the clinical team in the Spine and Pain department. The working hours are Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4 PM, with no weekend or holiday shifts required. The primary responsibilities include preparing patients for their visits by completing the Advanced Standard room process, which involves entering the chief complaint, taking vital signs, reviewing patient history and allergies, and conducting thorough medication reconciliations. The Medical Assistant will also work with the Encounter Guide to address any open care gaps, such as fall risk assessments, depression screenings, and cancer screenings, ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed in the Epic system for yearly preventative visits. In addition to patient preparation, the Medical Assistant will assist with various in-office testing procedures, including drawing blood, conducting mental status exams, performing EKGs, and executing point-of-care testing. The role also includes administering vaccines and other injections within the scope of practice, scheduling follow-up appointments as needed, and collaborating closely with providers and the clinical care team to monitor and coordinate the delivery of care plans. This position is vital in ensuring that patients receive comprehensive and coordinated care during their visits to the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for visits by completing the Advanced Standard room process.
  • Enter the chief complaint and take patient vital signs.
  • Review patient history and allergies, and complete medication reconciliation.
  • Work with the Encounter Guide to close open care gaps such as fall risk and cancer screenings.
  • Recheck elevated blood pressures and complete necessary documentation in Epic.
  • Assist with in-office testing including drawing blood and conducting EKGs.
  • Administer vaccines and other injections within scope of practice.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments as needed per office policy.
  • Collaborate with providers and clinical care team to monitor and coordinate care delivery.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must obtain BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Preferred: 6 months of clinical healthcare experience.
  • For Certified Medical Assistant: Must have active Medical Assistant certification/registration (RMA, CCMA, CMA).
