About the position
The Medical Assistant Student position is designed for individuals enrolled in an accredited Medical Assistant program or those with prior experience in a medical assistant role. Under the direct supervision of a manager and provider, the student will perform a variety of clinical and administrative tasks aimed at providing excellent patient care. This role emphasizes patient-centered care and efficient clinic operations, including both clinical duties such as taking vitals and administrative tasks like scheduling appointments.
Responsibilities
- Greet and escort patients to the exam room.
- Measure and record vital signs, height, and weight.
- Collect and record medical and medication histories.
- Prepare patients for examination or procedure.
- Assist the provider as directed to ensure efficient patient flow.
- Assist in specimen collection with accurate labeling and prescriptions as directed by the provider.
- Maintain equipment and supplies in the clinic.
- Answer telephones and handle customer inquiries promptly.
- Schedule appointments and process referrals and prior authorizations.
- Register patients ensuring accuracy and compliance with registration steps.
Requirements
- Enrollment in an accredited Medical Assistant program or prior experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross obtained within 90 days.
- Experience in a medical office or similar setting.
