About the position

The Medical Assistant/Urology Tech plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare providers in both front and back office procedures. This position is designed to ensure that patients receive comprehensive care by acting as a direct liaison between the provider and the patient. The Medical Assistant is responsible for addressing any patient questions or concerns, ensuring they are communicated to the appropriate provider. In a Medical Home medical practice setting, the Medical Assistant becomes an integral part of the patient's care team, collaborating closely with healthcare providers and nurses. This role requires a proactive approach during the rooming process, which includes reviewing medications, setting health goals, and providing patient education. Additionally, the Medical Assistant is tasked with tracking and coordinating patient test results, reminding patients of overdue health maintenance topics, and assisting other members of the Medical Home Care Team to deliver optimal patient-centered care. The responsibilities of the Medical Assistant extend to various back office duties, such as escorting patients from the waiting room to the examination room, taking vital signs, maintaining the stock of examination rooms, documenting patient communications, preparing lab specimens, completing referral forms, obtaining necessary authorizations, scheduling tests, and managing phone calls. The role also involves administering treatments and medications as per provider orders, adhering to established policies. The Medical Assistant must navigate challenges such as adapting to new techniques, managing paperwork, and complying with changing department and hospital policies. This position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of care, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, and meeting third-party reimbursement requirements. The Medical Assistant is expected to demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy while interacting with patients of all ages, their families, and other healthcare providers, ensuring accurate collection of demographic, clinical, and financial information.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers in front and back office procedures.
  • Act as a direct liaison between provider and patient.
  • Address patient questions and concerns promptly.
  • Work alongside healthcare providers and nurses in a Medical Home setting.
  • Review medications and set health goals during the rooming process.
  • Provide patient education and support.
  • Track and coordinate patient test results.
  • Remind patients of overdue health maintenance topics.
  • Assist the Medical Home Care Team in delivering patient-centered care.
  • Escort patients from the waiting room to the examination room.
  • Take vital signs according to guidelines.
  • Maintain stock of examination rooms.
  • Document all patient communications accurately.
  • Prepare lab specimens for processing.
  • Complete necessary referral forms and obtain authorizations.
  • Schedule patients for tests and manage phone calls.
  • Administer treatments and medications as per provider orders.

Requirements

  • Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Multi-physician office practice experience highly preferred.
  • CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, EMT 1 or completion of an Externship preferred.
  • Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant, or application must be submitted within 90 days of employment.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment required.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or EMT certification preferred.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain necessary computer skills within 90 days.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a multi-physician office practice setting.
  • Certification in DOT and Non-DOT drug testing.
