About the position

The Medical Assistant at Intermountain Health is responsible for providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting, addressing both acute and chronic needs. This role involves performing administrative and patient care tasks, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining a positive and caring attitude while coordinating care and documenting patient information.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general administrative and patient care tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Greet and prepare patients for the healthcare provider.
  • Obtain and record patient information including vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • Draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as required.
  • Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow up to ensure completion.
  • Document patient plans of care, tests, and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
  • Prepare, clean, and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment.
  • Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via various methods.
  • Escalate non-routine issues to the practice manager or healthcare provider.
  • Complete safety checklists and quality controls as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program and/or be a certified Medical Assistant.
  • Current BLS Certification required upon hire or within 60 days of hire.
  • Three months previous experience within a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful completion of an Accredited National Certification Exam for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
  • One year of Medical Assistant experience.
