About the position

The Medical Assistant (Ophthalmic Technician) at McPeak Vision Partners plays a crucial role in providing excellent patient care during visits. This position involves facilitating patient flow, assisting the doctor with preliminary testing, and verifying medical and vision insurances. The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for effectively communicating with patients, doctors, and managers, and answering inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests. The role requires a strong commitment to customer service and compliance with company policies, including HIPAA regulations. The technician will also be involved in recording patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and performing various diagnostic tests related to eye care.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate patient flow
  • Assist the doctor in preliminary testing
  • Verify medical and vision insurances
  • Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers
  • Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests
  • Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter
  • Display a professional attitude and greet patients promptly
  • Practice urgency with patient's and doctor's time
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patients
  • Record medical history, current medications, and confirm purpose of visit
  • Record all data in the patient's Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Check condition of patient's eyes by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements
  • Perform diagnostic tests including visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, auto refractor, and topography
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications
  • Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by manager

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Favorable result on Background Check
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excitement to learn and grow

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) is preferred
