About the position

Shenandoah Community Health (SCH) is seeking a dedicated and certified Medical Assistant to join our team at the Winchester location. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, SCH is committed to providing access to healthcare by reducing barriers to care. Our comprehensive range of services includes primary care, women's health, behavioral health, oral health, HIV case management, pharmacy, lab, radiology, and various support services. We also offer interpretation services for patients whose primary language is not English. In this role, the Medical Assistant will assist the nurse and provider in various tasks, including obtaining and documenting vital signs, presenting patient problems, and assisting the provider during examinations. The Medical Assistant will also perform CLIA waived lab tests, answer telephone calls, and enter information into electronic medical files. Additionally, this position involves reinforcing medical instructions provided by the healthcare team to patients, ensuring they understand their care and treatment plans. The ideal candidate will be a certified Medical Assistant with a strong ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. Excellent communication and patient education skills are essential, as is the ability to provide compassionate care to our patients. Annual basic BLS certification is required, and previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the nurse and provider in obtaining and documenting vital signs.
  • Present patient problems to the provider.
  • Assist the provider during examinations in the exam room.
  • Perform CLIA waived lab tests as required.
  • Answer telephone calls and manage patient inquiries.
  • Enter patient information into electronic medical files.
  • Reinforce medical instructions provided by the healthcare team to patients.

Requirements

  • Must be Certified or Registered as a Medical Assistant.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent skills in patient communication and education.
  • Annual basic BLS certification required.
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting is preferred.
