About the position
The Medical Assistant at Abacus Dermatology is responsible for providing support in a clinical setting, ensuring that patient care is delivered efficiently and effectively. This role involves scheduling surgical appointments, communicating with patients about their medical needs, and maintaining compliance with health regulations. The Medical Assistant will also prepare patient rooms, assist during examinations, and manage medical supplies.
Responsibilities
- Schedule all surgical appointments and communicate with patients regarding medication, lab results, and tissue diagnosis.
- Prepare patient rooms at the start of the workday, ensuring they are clean and stocked.
- Escort patients to exam rooms and document their medical history using the EHR system.
- Assist physicians during patient examinations and obtain necessary samples or supplies.
- Answer patient questions and refer complex inquiries to the physician.
- Clean and prepare rooms between patient visits, including changing table paper and sanitizing surfaces.
- Set up rooms for procedures, ensuring the sterile field is maintained and informed consent is obtained from patients.
- Log in and out all pathology specimens and orders for lab work.
- Transport used instruments to the maintenance area, ensuring safety standards are followed.
- Maintain inventory of medical and surgical supplies, placing orders as needed.
- Discard expired medications and keep the nursing station organized.
- Call patients with biopsy results as directed by the physician and refill prescriptions as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred.
- Experience in a clinical setting, preferably in dermatology or a related field.
- Proficient in using Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
Nice-to-haves
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA regulations.
