About the position
The Medical Assistant at Newport Healthcare plays a crucial role in providing on-site attendant care to adolescents in a behavioral healthcare setting. This position involves collaborating with medical, clinical, and care coordinator staff to ensure high-quality client care while adhering to the organization's mission and regulatory standards. The role requires monitoring health conditions, conducting medical tests, and administering medications under supervision, all aimed at supporting the healing process of young individuals.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site attendant care to adolescents at assigned facilities.
- Collaborate with Medical, Clinical, and Care Coordinator staff to deliver high-level client care.
- Monitor chronic health conditions such as diabetes and respiratory distress.
- Obtain patient data and vital signs, reporting findings to the medical team.
- Conduct medical tests including TB tests, COVID-19 nasal swabs, and urine drug screens.
- Collect blood and/or urine samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Comply with reporting requirements and medical protocols.
- Prepare and administer medication under supervision.
- Count medications and audit as requested by the Nursing Manager.
- Prepare admissions bins and discharge medications.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and activities.
- Fax and scan documents as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Certification from an accredited training program required.
- Entry-level position with under 1 year of experience preferred.
- Experience in residential care preferred.
- EMR savvy and MAT certified preferred or must become certified within 60 days.
