About the position

The Medical Assistant position at Icare Center LLC is a PRN role focused on providing essential support in a clinical environment. The role involves direct patient interaction, ensuring smooth patient flow, and assisting healthcare providers with various medical tasks and procedures. This position requires a blend of clinical skills and administrative duties to maintain an efficient healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients in the waiting area and ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Escort patients to the discharge counter.
  • Obtain patient history and assess/triage patients.
  • Measure vital signs and record information in the medical record/EMR.
  • Explain treatment procedures and prepare patients and exam rooms for examination.
  • Carry out Standing Orders as applicable prior to patient being seen by the provider according to written protocol.
  • Position instruments and equipment and hand them to the provider as directed.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use.
  • Administer injections, medications, and perform eye and ear irrigations.
  • Dress and bandage wounds and incisions, start/monitor IV, and draw blood according to written orders.
  • Assist the provider with any procedures as per provider orders.
  • Perform diagnostic tests including eye exams, electrocardiographs, and monitor oxygen equipment.
  • Perform CLIA-waived lab tests, draw blood, and collect, label, and process specimens for reference lab according to physician orders.
  • Perform both DOT and Non-DOT urine drug screens, ensuring proper chain of custody.
  • Perform dosage calculations for administering medications.
  • Remove sutures/staples and change sterile and non-sterile dressings as per provider orders.
  • Where applicable, perform basic x-rays or assist radiology technician with x-ray set-up.
  • Complete medical records to include medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
  • Perform patient call backs, verify DOB, arrange referrals and testing, and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Ensure all patient and patient-related telephone calls are documented in the medical record/EMR.
  • Restock examination rooms with adequate supplies and clean examination rooms after patient visits.
  • Monitor disposable inventory and notify appropriate persons of supplies and pharmaceuticals needed.
  • Monitor medication expiration dates.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a medical assistant program or equivalent experience.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification.
