About the position

The Medical Assistant position at AFC Urgent Care involves providing essential support in patient care within an urgent care setting. The role includes greeting patients, assisting with examinations, taking vital signs, and performing various clinical and clerical duties under the supervision of a physician. This part-time position offers flexible scheduling, primarily on weekends, with opportunities for additional hours.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and escorts them into the exam room.
  • Assists in a variety of treatments under the supervision of a physician.
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment by taking patient histories and vital signs, reviewing medications and chief complaints.
  • Prepares exam rooms and equipment for physicians.
  • Provides quality patient care.
  • Screens and triages patient telephone calls for referral to physician, as appropriate.
  • Takes vital signs, patient histories, EKGs, and performs in-house testing (strep, flu, COVID, etc.).
  • Answers and addresses all telephone communication promptly and courteously, including prescription refills, authorization requests, patient questions, and scheduling changes.
  • Performs various clerical duties in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Answers telephone and provides front desk support including scheduling appointments, obtaining referrals, and collecting copayments.
  • Obtains test results from hospitals, laboratories, radiologists, and doctor offices as requested.
  • Retrieves and files charts, maintains patient files, records, and other information as needed.
  • Mails reports and completed forms if necessary.
  • Orders and maintains clinical and office supplies and equipment.
  • Attends staff meetings as required by the Manager.
  • Interprets, adapts, and applies guidelines and procedures.
  • Provides copies of educational material to patients.
  • Complies with all HIPAA guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid Certified Medical Assistant certification is required.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 1 year of experience with EMR systems is preferred.
  • 1 year of patient care experience is preferred.
  • BLS Certification is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in taking vital signs.
  • Experience in urgent care settings.
