About the position

The Medical Assistant position at Optum involves supporting licensed Medical Providers in delivering high-quality medical care to patients. This role is essential in ensuring that patients are prepared for examinations and treatments, maintaining medical records, and assisting with various clinical tasks. The position is located in Clifton, NJ, and requires a commitment to patient confidentiality and compliance with medical regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the patient for the Medical Provider's examination by obtaining vital signs and patient history
  • Prepares and maintains the examination and treatment areas
  • Prepares the patient for and assists with the examination
  • Prepares the patient for and assists with procedures and treatments
  • Maintains medication and immunization records
  • Performs sterilization techniques
  • Performs an inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Understands proper function and care of special equipment
  • Performs routine maintenance and calibration of administrative and clinical equipment
  • Administers vaccines and other injections where applicable
  • Organizes and maintains medical records
  • Cooperates with other OPTUM employees to achieve specific team goals
  • Responsible for follow-up with patients, such as scheduling specialist appointments and preparing referrals
  • Keeps abreast of current medical requirements relevant to the position, including maintaining patient confidentiality and abiding by HIPAA and OSHA requirements
  • Assists with front desk duties when needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • CMA certification
  • Proven basic computer and word-processing skills
  • Ability to work Monday - Friday between 7:00am - 8:00pm & two Saturdays per month between 8:00am and 2:00pm
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English
