About the position

The Medical Assistant position at AdventHealth involves providing care to patients under the direction of the Office Manager and/or Clinical Supervisor. The role includes assisting physicians during examinations, administering treatments, and ensuring a smooth patient flow within the practice. The Medical Assistant is responsible for patient education, documentation, and maintaining a clean and organized environment in the medical practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate care to patients within the scope of the Medical Practice Act.
  • Assist in patient education and support during treatment and examinations.
  • Room patients for appointments and obtain vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, and weight.
  • Document patient information accurately on progress notes.
  • Prepare patients for physical examinations and screen them for relevant information.
  • Instruct patients in the collection of samples and tests.
  • Explain procedures and treatments to patients and their families prior to implementation.
  • Review patient charts to ensure all test results and correspondence are present before the physician sees the patient.
  • Assist with the preparation of equipment and aid the physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to policy and document them in the patient's chart.
  • Manage appointment bookings and prioritize patients in emergency situations.
  • Respond to incoming telephone calls and provide medication and treatment instructions to patients and families.
  • Prepare exam rooms, restock treatment areas, and disinfect exam tables and counters.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant program or 3 years' experience.
  • BLS certification is a condition of employment.
  • CMA or RMA certification required.
  • Registered or Certified from a recognized Medical Assistant Program.
