This position is available for both part-time and full-time employment, offering flexible hours to accommodate various schedules. The clinic is looking for a medical biller and coder who can efficiently handle the revenue cycle management and accounts receivable processes. While professional licenses are not required, candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED, and a medical coding certification is preferred. The clinic is willing to train candidates who may not have extensive experience but show a willingness to learn and adapt to the role. The primary responsibilities of the medical biller and coder include identifying diagnoses, medical tests, treatments, and procedures from clinical documentation and transcribing this information into standardized codes. This coding is essential for billing government and commercial payers to ensure proper physician reimbursement. Additionally, the role involves analyzing Explanation of Benefits (EOB) forms to verify that insurance companies have paid for the charges incurred. The medical biller and coder will also generate accounts receivable reports for clients and follow up with insurance companies and patients to ensure that bills are paid in a timely manner. The ability to remain calm and effective in a busy environment is crucial, as well as performing other clinical duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Identifying diagnoses, medical tests, treatments, and procedures from clinical documentation and transcribing patient data into standardized codes.
- Analyzing Explanation of Benefits (EOB) forms to ensure insurance companies have paid for charges.
- Generating accounts receivable reports for clients.
- Following up with insurance companies and patients to ensure bills are paid.
- Acting calmly and effectively in a busy situation.
- Performing other clinical duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Medical Coding Certification preferred.
- 1 year of experience in medical billing and coding preferred.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 coding preferred.
- Typing skills with a minimum of 45 wpm accuracy.
- Familiarity with medical terminology preferred, but training will be provided.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) preferred, but training will be provided.
Nice-to-haves
- 1-2 years of experience as a medical biller and coder preferred.
- Ability to communicate in Chinese preferred.
