About the position
The Medical Biller/Claims Specialist at Sanford Heights Hearing Center is responsible for managing the billing process for an audiologist office. This role involves reviewing medical records, assigning appropriate medical codes, and ensuring compliance with coding guidelines. The position requires effective communication with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations. This is an in-house position, emphasizing the need for experience in medical billing and coding.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze medical records and patient information to accurately assign appropriate medical codes (ICD-10, ICD-9, DRG) for billing purposes
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulations
- Verify insurance information into the billing system
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies electronically or by paper
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and resolve any billing discrepancies or issues
- Communicate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients regarding billing inquiries or disputes
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Creating Authorizations for insurance companies for Hearing Aids.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Biller or in a similar role
- Strong knowledge of medical billing procedures, coding systems (ICD-10, ICD-9), and terminology
- Familiarity with DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) coding is a plus
- Proficient in using medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in coding and data entry
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills to interact with healthcare professionals, insurance companies, and patients
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
