About the position

The Medical Biller/Client Services Representative is essential in ensuring effective communication within the billing department and with patients, providers, and other stakeholders. This role involves managing incoming calls, coordinating administrative tasks related to billing, referrals, and prior authorizations, and ensuring accurate billing processes for patients and insurance companies.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the billing system and processes to accurately process billing for patients and insurance companies.
  • Monitor and respond to messages from patients and providers through communication systems.
  • Manage all incoming and outgoing faxes related to billing, prior authorization, and insurance verifications.
  • Reach out to referring providers to obtain necessary referral information and documentation for billing and prior authorization.
  • Discuss financial obligations and options for payment with patients.
  • Accurately apply payments and adjustments to patient accounts.
  • Manage the annual setup and updates of fee schedules in EMA, ensuring accuracy and alignment with payer guidelines.
  • Update patient and insurance demographics/information as necessary.
  • Monitor and process payments made through the patient portal and manage the text to pay system.
  • Submit patient assistance applications and manage billing for workers' compensation claims.
  • Handle patient and insurance refunds and complete end-of-day financial reconciliation.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED is required.
  • 1 year of experience in an office setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a medical office.
  • Understanding of Ophthalmic language and terms.
  • Financial experience in bookkeeping, receivables, and payables.
