About the position

Sunflower Pediatric Eye Care & Strabismus is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to manage the entire billing process, maintain relationships with insurance companies, and ensure timely collections of accounts receivable. The role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and coding systems, as well as proficiency in various medical office software. Responsibilities

• Accurately prepare and submit medical billing claims to insurances.
• Post payments from insurance companies and patients on a daily basis and formulate bank deposits.
• Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations prior to procedures.
• Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims and resolve any discrepancies or issues with insurance companies.
• Submit statements to patients bimonthly and follow up on collection accounts.
• Prepare weekly reports of accounts receivable and monthly financial reports for practice administration.
• Handle all billing phone calls from patients or insurance companies.
• Review and monitor insurance reimbursement and fee schedules with current contracts.
• Maintain credentialing of physicians with insurance companies and help negotiate insurance contracts.

Requirements

• 3+ years of medical billing experience with preference for Ophthalmology/Optometry experience.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 coding systems.
• Familiarity with Ophthalmology/Optometry terminology and electronic health record (EHR) software.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives.
• Certification in medical billing or coding is preferred.
