About the position

The Medical Billing Specialist role focuses on follow-up and collections to ensure accurate and timely claims processing in a healthcare setting. This full-time position requires a detail-oriented individual who is driven by accuracy and efficiency in managing healthcare financials.

Responsibilities

  • Assign accurate codes to medical procedures and diagnoses for billing and reimbursement purposes.
  • Collect and verify patient information, including demographics, insurance, and medical history.
  • Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and government entities.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims, address denials, resolve issues, and resubmit claims as needed.
  • Communicate with patients regarding billing inquiries and available payment options.
  • Stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations, insurance policies, and billing practices.
  • Maintain precise records of patient and financial transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare billing and privacy laws.
  • Manage insurance collections, negotiate payment arrangements, and address correspondence.
  • Handle patient calls to support collection efforts, including eligibility assessment for charity programs and discount negotiations.
  • Conduct detailed account reviews, resolve discrepancies, and update billing details as necessary.
  • Utilize knowledge of HCPCS, CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 codes, medical terminology, and clinical documentation.
  • Interpret payer billing requirements and assist in educating staff on compliance needs.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies to resolve claim issues.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • 5+ years of medical billing and collections experience (required)
  • Proficiency in basic Excel (required)
  • In-depth understanding of medical billing processes, coding systems, and payer guidelines.
