About the position

The Medical Billing Representative at Associated Physicians, LLP is responsible for managing all billing and follow-up functions to ensure timely reimbursement for medical services. This role involves investigating payment delays, responding to inquiries from patients and providers, and performing various business office duties related to claims processing and collections. The representative will work under the supervision of the Business Office Supervisor and is expected to maintain effective communication and relationships with all stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone inquiries in a professional manner and respond to patient and third-party questions regarding accounts and billing procedures.
  • Resolve billing errors and ensure accurate and timely transmission of claims.
  • Collect, enter, and update patient demographic and insurance information as necessary.
  • Verify active insurance coverage and research coordination of benefits.
  • Investigate denials and complete necessary forms for appeals or prior authorizations.
  • Monitor outstanding insurance balances and contact insurance companies regarding payment status.
  • Assist clinic staff with self-pay and collection account issues, explaining account balances to patients.
  • Process patient credit card payments and assist with posting charges and payments as needed.
  • Adhere to clinic policies and procedures, including patient confidentiality standards.
  • Participate in department meetings and enhance professional development through continued education.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of medical insurance billing experience, including customer service experience.
  • Thorough understanding of revenue cycle and ability to interact with government and commercial insurances.
  • Sound decision-making ability regarding complex claims processing workflows.
  • PC/typing/10-key calculator experience and working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases.
  • Excellent organization, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a medical business office setting.
  • Knowledge of billing procedures, medical terminology, and CPT/ICD coding.
  • Cash handling experience.
  • Prior experience with Epic.
