About the position

The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for coordinating all billing and collections processes within the organization. This role involves keying charges and payments, researching unpaid claims, submitting appeals, and addressing customer inquiries regarding billing. The specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate billing practices and effective communication with patients and insurance companies.

Responsibilities

• Obtain prior authorization from insurance carriers.
• Correct rejected claims and track payments.
• Follow up with patients and insurance companies regarding unpaid bills.
• Process patient data, including medical records and insurance-related information.
• Responsible for coding diagnoses, procedures, services, and treatments.
• Prepare documentation for insurance companies for medical procedures and services.
• Send invoices to patients and insurers for payment collection.
• Communicate with patients regarding outstanding balances and develop payment plans.
• Post insurance and patient payments.
• Set up payment plans for patient balances.
• Perform other position-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two years billing experience within a physician practice.
• Experience in prior authorizations.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD coding, and revenue cycle process.
• Knowledge of EHR systems and Microsoft Office products.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks with excellent problem-solving skills.
• Well organized with the ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

• Coding and/or Physician Billing Certification preferred.
• Experience in Urology or physician practice environment preferred.
