About the position

The Medical Billing Specialist at Care+ Pediatrics Urgent Care plays a crucial role in the healthcare revenue cycle by ensuring accurate and timely billing functions across all office locations. This position requires expertise in medical coding, collections, and EMR systems, particularly Athena, to maximize reimbursement and compliance. The specialist will handle medical claims, resolve billing issues, and maintain patient records with precision, contributing to the financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Bills all clients/patients including additional billing of rejected, denied accounts.
  • Prepares billing in a timely manner and obtains clearance of billing from appropriate departments.
  • Determines clients/patients that are to be billed on a weekly basis and ensures there are no discrepancies.
  • Notifies administration of dollar amounts not filled and the reasons why.
  • Verifies chart documentation prior to billing.
  • Prepares trial invoices for review by appropriate departments.
  • Processes reports for billing.
  • Verifies transmission or hard copy billing to ensure reimbursement.
  • Bills Medicaid, including General Medicaid and State Dept. of Human Services insurance on a daily or as needed basis.
  • Maintains confidentiality concerning all billing activities and knowledge by diligently keeping all files in appropriate locations.
  • Maintains accurate and timely billing records and reports, assists with updating company forms and/or policies related to billing, and maintains the billing manual.
  • Keeps claims until the batch is verified as received by the Fiscal Intermediary.
  • Assists with completion of assigned administrative duties to ensure smooth operation of the company, including administrative correspondence and collecting billing-related information for surveys and reports.
  • Completes filing, copying, faxing, and data entry requirements necessary for administrative programs and documents related to billing.
  • Answers telephones in a professional manner and relays calls/messages to the appropriate person.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of medical billing experience with at least one (1) year experience billing in Athena (EMR) and at least one (1) year experience in billing Medicaid.
  • Computer/word processing skills and experience desired.
  • Ability to meet minimum hiring standards.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and maintain valid auto liability insurance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in urgent care setting (1 year preferred).
