About the position

The Medical Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in the daily operations of patient billing within a rheumatology and internal medicine practice. This position involves accurate claims submission, accounts receivable follow-up, payment posting, and ensuring compliance with billing regulations. The specialist will also provide education and support to staff, helping to meet the financial and operational goals of the practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily operations of patient billing including accurate claims submission and payment posting.
• Conduct accounts receivable follow-up and process EOB and COB.
• Manage credit balance refunds, appeals, audits, and collections.
• Assist in training and coaching staff to ensure financial and operational goals are met.
• Coordinate daily activities in the billing department and ensure timely execution of tasks.
• Educate coworkers on third-party payers' billing and coding rules to detect potential claim errors.
• Run and analyze reports, providing feedback and recommendations to the Manager/Physician.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational policies and procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of medical billing experience required.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS-P) preferred or willing to obtain.
• Solid knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Ability to interpret and implement third-party payer and Medicare billing policies.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Allscripts or other EHR software is a plus.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
• Previous experience in customer service or hospitality preferred.
