About the position

The Medical Director for MatureCare at the University of New England provides strategic leadership and clinical oversight for the practice, focusing on primary care and geriatrics. This role involves managing daily operations, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, and delivering direct clinical services to various healthcare facilities. The position also includes teaching responsibilities for medical students and mentoring healthcare professionals in geriatrics and primary care.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains, updates, and implements healthcare policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Manages the electronic medical records system and quality assurance processes.
  • Develops monitoring and operational systems to assess financial performance of facilities.
  • Creates clinical practice guidelines across all facilities attended by MatureCare.
  • Mentors physicians and NPs in geriatrics and primary care practices.
  • Participates in strategic and operations planning for MatureCare.
  • Administers and oversees the operating and capital purchase budgets of MatureCare.
  • Prepares feasibility studies for new initiatives.
  • Modifies services, programs, and operating systems according to patient and student needs.
  • Stays updated on new developments in health services delivery and management.
  • Ensures compliance with departmental and institutional standards.
  • Coordinates with department chair on deployment of physician faculty.
  • Provides ongoing reviews of clinical staff and services.
  • Exercises departmental budgetary planning and implementation.
  • Acts as Essential Personnel during health emergencies or crises.
  • Provides direct medical care to MatureCare patients, including on-call services.
  • Delivers clinical instruction to nursing and other clinical staff.
  • Supervises medical, nursing, and medical assistant students in clinical settings.
  • Coordinates clinical instruction with UNECOM curriculum administrators.
  • Commits to fostering a culture of inclusion and diversity.
  • Complies with OSHA and safety procedures and policies.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Osteopathic or allopathic physician with eligible license in Maine.
  • Relevant training/experience in primary care, family practice, or internal medicine.
  • Experience serving the geriatric population is essential.
  • Certificate of qualifications or fellowship trained in Geriatrics is highly desirable.
  • Strong teaching and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent planning and administrative skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in various settings.
  • Tact, discretion, and sensitivity in patient interactions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Good interviewing and counseling skills.
  • Ability to explain medical issues in layman's terms.
  • Collaborative skills with a range of individuals and organizations.
