About the position

The Medical Director for the Methadone Program at Acacia Network is responsible for providing clinical leadership and direction in the delivery of medical care and physician services. This role involves oversight of medical policies, procedures, and training, ensuring compliance with regulations, and acting as a liaison between administration and medical staff. The Medical Director will also contribute to strategic planning and quality improvement initiatives within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and responsibility for medical services provided by the program.
  • Oversee the development and revision of medical policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to supervise non-medical staff in substance use disorder services.
  • Supervise medical staff in the performance of medical services.
  • Establish policies for routine services and medical surveillance.
  • Develop public health education and screening policies for patients.
  • Assist in developing referral relationships with other healthcare institutions.
  • Ensure program compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Act as the designated Health Coordinator for the program.
  • Attend leadership meetings and contribute to clinical policy discussions.
  • Lead monthly meetings with staff and providers at the clinic.
  • Contribute to provider and medical staff recruitment efforts.
  • Conduct initial and annual performance evaluations as needed.
  • Provide clinical services consistent with specialty qualifications.
  • Promote teamwork and excellence among staff.
  • Prepare for regulatory agency site visits and ensure compliance with clinical records maintenance.
  • Review incidents related to patient care and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure physician participation in the Interdisciplinary Care Planning process.

Requirements

  • Active and unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in New York State.
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Completion of three years of residency and fellowship (if applicable).
  • Subspecialty board certification in addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine.
  • Active and unrestricted DEA registration.
  • Possession of a DATA 2000 waiver.
  • Strong understanding of examination methodologies and diagnostics.
  • Excellent knowledge of infectious diseases and their epidemiology.
  • Broad knowledge of common medications, side effects, and contraindications.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (strongly preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of legal medical guidelines and best practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • At least one year of experience in substance use disorders and clinical experience in acute care settings.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
  • Experience in community health centers serving diverse populations.
