About the position

Housing Works is seeking a Medical Director to lead our Health Services division, reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of medical patient care services at our clinic, ensuring that our operations align with regulatory standards and best practices. The Medical Director will adopt a solutions-oriented approach to monitor clinical performance, implement clinical protocols, and develop performance objectives that enhance the quality of care provided to our patients. This position is not only about management but also about mentorship; the Medical Director will coach and train staff providers, guiding them in best practices and troubleshooting operational issues in accordance with Housing Works policies and Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) standards. In addition to clinical oversight, the Medical Director will be responsible for the recruitment and orientation of new clinical staff, ensuring that all providers are well-trained and aligned with our organizational goals. The role also includes maintaining accountability systems for clinical quality assurance, directing the Quality Assurance and Improvement (QA&I) process, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory and licensing agencies. The Medical Director will establish collaborative relationships within the health provider community, representing Housing Works at various meetings and conferences, and will play a key role in developing new medical service delivery areas. The Medical Director will also provide direct clinical services in their area of specialty, ensuring that all practices meet the highest standards of medical care. Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise the medical staff and develop areas of responsibility to align with clinical division goals.
  • Direct all providers in the practice of quality care according to organizational standards and benchmarks.
  • Maintain accountability systems for providers, including productivity benchmarks and performance measures.
  • Implement clinical protocols that are easily understood and followed by clinical staff.
  • Participate in the recruitment of qualified clinical staff, including interviewing and hiring recommendations.
  • Monitor and assist with the new-hire orientation process to ensure consistent training among clinical providers.
  • Ensure compliance of medical services and operations with all applicable regulatory and licensing agencies.
  • Assess clinical compliance matters and provide recommendations for corrective action and quality improvement.
  • Supervise clinical laboratory operations to ensure compliance with CLIA and other agency requirements.
  • Direct the Quality Assurance and Improvement (QA&I) process for the clinic, ensuring quality and appropriateness of care are monitored.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships in the health provider community for referrals and inpatient care.
  • Represent Housing Works at consultative and advisory bodies and participate in meetings and conferences.
  • Provide leadership in developing new medical service delivery areas and assist in formulating medical program policies and protocols.
  • Provide direct clinical medical services in accordance with the highest standards of medical practice.

Requirements

  • Board certification or Board eligible in a major primary care specialty field of practice.
  • Valid current license to practice medicine in the state of New York, including DEA license and CPR certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and capacity to build trust and respect among patients and staff.
  • Ability to motivate staff and promote team building within the clinical arena.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including creativity and resourcefulness.
