About the position
The Medical Dosimetrist plays a crucial role in the Radiation Oncology department by developing optimal treatment plans for cancer patients. This position focuses on maximizing the radiation dose to tumors while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues, in accordance with physician prescriptions. The Dosimetrist ensures effective communication among the medical team to maintain high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Designs effective treatment plans that deliver prescribed radiation doses and field placement techniques according to physician prescriptions.
- Ensures dose-limiting structures are considered in treatment plan designs and documents doses as per physician prescriptions.
- Verifies patient prescriptions, diagnoses, and identifications, accurately designing treatment plans with care.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient treatment plans and related documents.
- Communicates with coworkers regarding any issues related to patient care and treatment planning.
- Enters all dosimetry charges accurately and in a timely manner.
- Manages time effectively and efficiently.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) or certification eligible by MDCB with completion within one year of hire.
- Experience with Varian Eclipse and Aria equipment is preferred.
- Experience with 3D conformal, IMRT, and VMAT treatment planning is preferred.
