About the position

The Medical Front Desk Receptionist for Neurosurgery plays a crucial role in managing the front office operations of a medical facility. This position is responsible for the timely submission of medical claims, patient registration, and ensuring a smooth check-in process for patients. The receptionist will handle various administrative tasks, including phone calls, faxes, and managing patient charts, while also providing excellent customer service to patients and insurance companies.

Responsibilities

  • Register and check in patients, processing all registration requirements including insurances and co-pays.
  • Handle phone calls, faxes, and scanning of patient charts.
  • Obtain referrals and pre-authorizations for procedures as required.
  • Check eligibility and benefits verification for treatments and hospitalizations.
  • Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness, obtaining any missing information.
  • Prepare, review, and transmit claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe.
  • Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount.
  • Call insurance companies regarding any discrepancies in payments if necessary.
  • Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances.
  • Review accounts for insurance of patient follow-up.
  • Research and appeal denied claims.
  • Answer all patient or insurance telephone inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts.
  • Set up patient payment plans and work collection accounts.
  • Update billing software with rate changes and cash spreadsheets, running collection reports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; associate's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Health Care Administration preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a medical office setting.
  • Knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements.
  • Competent use of computer systems, software, and 10 key calculators.
  • Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 Coding.
  • Effective communication abilities for phone contacts with insurance payers.
  • Strong customer service skills for interacting with patients and medical staff.
  • Ability to multitask and work well in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology likely to be encountered in medical claims.

Nice-to-haves

  • Human resources experience in hiring, supervision, and performance reviews.
  • Knowledge of continuous process improvement concepts and practices.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a pay range of $17.00 - $20.00 per hour.
  • Day shift schedule, Monday to Friday.
