About the position

The Medical Instrument Technician (Cardiovascular) position at the Department of Defense involves assisting physicians during various cardiovascular procedures at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The role requires expertise in operating specialized cardiovascular equipment and maintaining sterile environments, as well as monitoring patient status and training other medical staff. This is a full-time, permanent position with no remote work or telework options available.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians during cardiovascular procedures such as contrast angiography and pacemaker implantation.
  • Set up sterile fields and maintain aseptic techniques during procedures.
  • Operate fluoroscopic x-ray equipment and select appropriate angles and positions for imaging.
  • Perform post-processing of images and assess coronary artery conditions.
  • Monitor hemodynamic values and inform the medical team of any changes in patient status.
  • Operate various cardiovascular consoles and assist with emergency procedures like synchronized cardioversion.
  • Connect monitoring equipment and ensure proper function during procedures.
  • Train cardiovascular technicians, nurses, students, and physicians in radiographic operations.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience in operating or instructing on cardiovascular equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Must pass a background investigation and drug screening.
