Medical Insurance Authorization Specialist

About the position

The Medical Insurance Authorization Specialist is responsible for managing the pre-authorization and verification processes for patient care and billing. This role involves ensuring that all necessary documentation is in place, providing exceptional customer service to patients and their families, and collaborating with healthcare providers and insurance companies to resolve any issues related to insurance authorization.

Responsibilities

• Provide the highest level of customer care working with patients and their families, physicians, and insurance providers.
• Obtain pre-authorizations and ensure all necessary documentation is in place for procedures.
• Ensure accurate coding using ICD-10 and CPT guidelines.
• Assist patients with understanding their insurance benefits and coverage.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain necessary documentation for patient care.
• Resolve any issues related to insurance authorization and billing inquiries.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and data entry of information.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; associates or Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
• Proficiency in pre-authorization processes and ICD-10 coding.
• Knowledge of medical billing and insurance processes.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Familiarity with medical insurance and authorization processes.

Nice-to-haves

• 3 years of experience in a related field.
