About the position
The Lead Medical Interpreter provides essential English/Spanish interpretation services to facilitate effective communication between medical providers and patients. This role not only involves direct interpretation but also includes mentoring and overseeing other medical interpreters to ensure high-quality service delivery. The Lead Medical Interpreter plays a crucial role in enhancing patient care by bridging language gaps and supporting the clinical team in various capacities.
Responsibilities
- Provide English/Spanish interpretation services to patients and medical providers.
- Mentor, coach, and observe Medical Interpreter staff to ensure service continuity.
- Perform quarterly performance observations of Medical Interpreters.
- Assist in annual performance evaluations for Medical Interpreters.
- Act as a liaison for Medical Interpreter staff to resolve conflicts.
- Coordinate and facilitate annual Medical Interpreter training.
- Assist in the interview and training of new Medical Interpreter staff.
- Serve as a Float Medical Interpreter to cover staff absences.
- Participate in Care Team activities, including pre-visit planning and patient follow-ups.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives for clinical support staff.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- 1-3 years of experience interpreting in a clinical setting preferred.
- Ability to accurately speak and interpret both English and Spanish.
- Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Knowledge of computer software and EMR systems.
Nice-to-haves
- Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) certification preferred.
